See the Light, St. Petersburg

See the Light, St. Petersburg - church, seen from the south-east corner of Williams Park, twilight

I think that what draws me back to this photo is its simplicity and peacefulness - of both the time of day, the light from the church steeple - and the fact that the light draws the eye to just off-center from the photo. What are your thoughts on this? Do you like it or not? Why, or why not? I know, there's no action in it, just a couple of buildings at twilight.

Active Portrait - Dan Mann, Jack Frost

Dan Mann - This is from December 2014. Dan Mann is the President and CEO of Lighthouse of Pinellas in Pinellas County, Florida. Celebrating its 60th year "serving the blind and visually impaired in Pinellas County," LHP offers classes in helping those experiencing low vision and blindness learn to lead productive, independent lives.

According to the LHP website:

"In the state of Florida alone, more than 5,000 children (ages birth to 6) are blind or visually impaired.

"More than 19,000 residents of Pinellas County, FL are blind or visually impaired.

"Every seven minutes another person is diagnosed with blindness or a visual impairment.

"In the United States 1 in 5 individuals, 65 years and older, will experience some form of severe vision loss."

Anyone at any age can become visually impaired for any numerous reasons: accidents, illness, etc. If you're fortunate enough to be in a position to consider helping with a donation to a worthy place, please consider Lighthouse of Pinellas. (And no, LHP has not asked me to do this; I simply figure that this is a worthy place to help, and has nothing to do with politics.)

Democracy in Action

Democracy in Action - Since today is the Fourth of July - America's 240th birthday - I'm posting several photos that have been posted here before. These show different shots of democracy in action. No, they're not all-inclusive by any stretch, but it's a start. Have a great Fourth - and stay safe!
