Named in memory of the hospital's long-time house pet, Barnes, the charity was created to help assist pets brought in to Pinellas Animal Hospital.

Pinellas Animal Hospital was having a fund-raising event for Barnes' Buddies, a non-profit charity to help give "low or no-cost care to the pets of clients facing financial crisis, treating abandoned, sick or injured pets and those in other unfortunate circumstances."
